The method of creating Sasawashi fabric is rooted in traditional Japanese papermaking techniques. Washi is produced in a similar way to ordinary paper, except that it involves fewer chemicals. During this process, flakes of kumazasa are blended into the still-unfinished paper, then the paper sheets are cut into thin strips and twisted to form a material not unlike yarn. Finally, the newly formed strands are woven by a machine into the familiar Sasawashi fabric.

Sasawashi was founded as a reaction to the wastefulness and ephemeral lifespan of the textile industry. Made from absorbent washi paper threads infused with antibacterial kumazasa plant fibers, this innovative fabric offers natural deodorizing properties that prevent mildew growth and fiber deterioration. From Japanese-style room shoes to personal scrub towels, every piece in the Sasawashi collection stays true to the brand's fundamental values: comfort, longevity, and simplicity.
